This is a test I did today,
for a series of drawings/
paintings I want to do...
I was just messing with
different textures and
techniques.
I wanted to use a huge
amount of negative space
but I don't know if it works
like I wanted it too... oh well.
it's just a test after all.

she is absolutely gorgeous sail
i think i understand what you're going for, and i personally think it would be a lot better conceived without the background behind her.
but i know it was an experiment with texture so I'm not sure how to enhance this at all :(
how long did you spend on her?
I spent a while on this. Going back and forth... constantly undoing things, trying different things, and testing a bunch of shit.
In the end I don't really think it's that different than my other stuff. I could have done it much faster had I just done some of my standard tricks... rather, just gone with them, instead of trying to reinvent them.
Yeah, looking at it now there is way too much white space... it looked better bigger.
This is a great drawing Sail! One thought I had is faster isn't always better...no need to plagiarise yourself when you could expand instead, even if the experiments aren't something you've seen before or "guaranteed good results", the work always benefits from trying new ideas. This is good stuff :)
Yeah, I could use to spend more time on things sometimes. But, there is a quality I like in the lines when I just throw them down without a second thought about them. A kenetic energy or something that makes the more alive, or lively. I dunno. I spent most of the time in PS tweeking the textures, and trying different adjustments and colors.
yeah, I hear you. I like your work a lot Sail, especially the subtle touch you have with neutral colors :)
Thanks, Ester! I like everything almost completely desaturated and washed out. I think it looks cool. But, I do love the vivid colors other folks manage. They just never look right when I do it.
